Isobel MacDonell has been with her foster family for twelve years. Sent away from her Highland home for her own protection, Isobel joyfully anticipates the day she will be re-united with her father and sisters. But when Sir Phillip Kilpatrick of Clan Colquhoun arrives to escort her home - Isobel experiences a deep sense of foreboding. Learning of her arranged betrothal to a Highland Earl, Isobel begins to despair. Not only does she begin to fall hopelessly in love with her protector, Isobel has another, more terrible problem. She's a witch.

My Wicked Highlander is a wonderful story. Well written, balanced between romance and solid story, Holling's novel had me staying up way past my bedtime to read 'just one more chapter'. Holling's heroine, Isobel was fine - as far as heroines go. What made her stand out was the excellent storyline surrounding her. At times, she is bright, engaging, and quick witted, at others, disappointing in her foolish disregard for the all-too-obvious danger around them.

It is the hero, Phillip, stealing my praise. It's a well known fact that I've a wee bit of a thing for a strapping Highlander, but I'd like Phillip in any story. Holling writes a man sufficiently tortured, but one of principle. Phillip truly does battle to remain a man of honor as he falls in love with Isobel. What won my heart irrevocably was his response after surrendering to that love. If Holling continues to write heroes of this calibre, I foresee a long and successful writing career.

Another great facet of My Wicked Highlander was the dramatic ending. It struck me that the story seemed to naturally demand the reunion of Isobel and Phillip, negating the need for an absurd and forced reunion. Jen Holling is an author I will search out on Amazon's Kindle store.

as good as the first
Very passionate and romantic. Great story, likable characters. I would recommend it for romance readers for sure.
I love love loved this book. It's the perfect start to the story. I just wish that the other sisters journey home was told.
Not to bad.
I actually read the second book before this book, which kind of jaded my view of Isobel and what she did to Lord Kincreag, but after reading the book and knowing that all she did was follow her heart and that there had not been some great and lengthy betrothel that caused Lord Kincreag cause for immense betrayal, I found myself really enjoying the book, as I had enjoyed My Devilish Highlander. Out of all three books, this was my least favorite, but it was still a great book.

This is the first in the MacDonell Brides trilogy set in 16th century England and Scotland. It involves three sisters who are witches in a magical family living at a time when witches are hunted and burned at the stake. Their mother was one who met that fate. When it happened, their father sent them as young girls to distant corners of England and Scotland to protect them. Now he has recalled them as he is dying and wants them married and settled. This is the story of the first sister, Isobel, who can know things about people and the future by touching objects. Isobel is to marry the Earl of Kincreag but there is a powerful attraction between Isobel and the knight who is tasked with retrieving her, Sir Philip Kilpatrick. I thought the story was entertaining and I liked the relationship between Philip and Isobel. The hero and heroine are both strong and there's good sexual tension between them. The background story of the other sisters and the family's history is also well presented. I could do without the torture or the villagers' cruelty to those believed to be witches but otherwise it's a good story. Of the three (My Wicked Highlander, My Devilish Scotsman and My Shadow Warrior), I liked the first and third the best. Had I not purchased all three before I read one, I might have stopped at the second one.
